November 2010

The University of Texas football games are always exciting to attend.  Although it has not been a good season for the Longhorns, it has been a fun time to get together with friends.  Pictured with me is Marilyn Gregory, the Texas State first vice-presdient and friend from my Golden Gift Leadership/ Management experience. Marilyn and her husband offered me wonderful advice when I transitioned from Connecticut to Texas.

October 2010

DKG members from Alpha chapter met with an exciting program where teachers with less than 10 years experience presented a problem they were facing.  In round table discussions, advice was first given by teachers with 10 ten years or more experience.  It was then followed by advice from retired educators. At the end, a recorder from the group shared the situation and options with the whole membership. The teacher left the meeting with all kinds of options to help her deal with the situation.  This is another example of Delta Kappa Gamma members in action helping each other.

September 2010

This year I transferred my DKG membership from Theta chapter in Connecticut to Alpha chapter in Texas.  At our Sepetmber meeting, we initiated 10 new members .  This event was held at the Delta Kappa Gamma headquarters in Austin.  We celebrated and enjoyed the fellowship.

August 2010

During August I arranged a trip back to Connecticut to visit family. Activities filled each day. I was able to get together with many friends as well.  My nieces and nephew had many plans set in place for my visit. One niece was able to get tickets to see the Jonas Brothers play in a benefit softball game against the staff at ESPN.  My sister gave me the 4 tickets along with a set of earplugs.  Excitement mounted as two of my nieces, age 7 and 10 and a nephew age 13 arrived at the stadium around 7 a.m. for a game that started at 1.  Needless to say, they were vey excited.  Fortunatley, I did not need the earplugs.

July 2010

The 2010 Delta Kappa Gamma International Convention in Spokane, Washington brought outstanding women educators together from 17 countries. There was much to celebrate during this professional experience.  For more information, visit the DKG web site at http://www.dkg.org/

June 2010

Enthusiastic energy filled the room as the conference title, “Global-Local Partnerships for 21st Century -A UN Collaborative for Success” emerged. Representatives from Delta Kappa Gamma, the Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN), Rotary, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Austin Independent School District, Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association, and the Bastrop Independent School District gathered at DKG International Headquarters to plan a CTAUN Conference to be held in Austin, Texas on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium at the University of Texas. Save the date for this upcoming educational opportunity.

May 2010

In April/May, Missouri was the exciting place to travel to attend the Delta Kappa Gamma State Convention in Independence. It was very motivating to visit and speak with our members in Missouri who are so active in their state. Prior to the convention, I traveled to a few possible locations being considered for the Southwest Regional in July of 2013. One location we visited was Branson, MO. Above is a picture taken with Sue, the state president and Clay Cooper. One evening we went out for some entertainment and saw Clay Cooper's County Music Express perform in Branson. We laughed and had great fun!

April 2010

In April, I had the opportunity to visit the Delta Kappa Gamma members in Alaska. Their state event was held in Anchorage, but I decided to take a few vacation days and see parts of the beautiful state. Judy, the state presdient, was a wonderful hostess who shared much about Alaska and its history with me. She also had a bag of moose hair from her front yard that she brought me. This picture was taken from a boatride off the cost of Seward. Breathtaking!

The state meeting was exciting and energizing. Our members in Alaska are moving forward especially in the area of technology. Their enthusiasm was contagious!

March 2010

March is a time to celebrate the Irish heritage. My sisters and I traveled to Ireland with my mom to celebrate her 80th birthday. We visited areas where our ancestors lived. We all had a chance to visit the home where my great-grandmother grew up in the early 1900's. Quite a memorable trip!
